New Transfer Station Windshield Stickers Available Now

Over the last several years, disposal costs at the transfer station have risen dramatically. Tipping fees and hauling costs have increased but there has also been an increase in the volume of trash, steel, tires, white goods, recyclables, etc.. This may be due in part to the pandemic-related influx of new residents and seasonal home owners becoming year round residents, but there is evidence to suggest that there are people using the transfer station that are not taxpayers in one of the participating towns.

Until now, people have been able to acquire stickers without proof of property ownership in one of the participating towns, and there was no limit set on the number of stickers people could get. The new system requires that anyone that wants a sticker must fill out a form with their contact information, what town they are landowners in, and information on the vehicle on which they will be applying the sticker. This information will be entered into a database and transfer station attendants will have the ability to scan the barcode on the sticker and retrieve the information associated with that sticker. If the information does not match the vehicle, access to the transfer station will be refused .

Tenants or renters must have the owner of the property fill out a form using the information from the vehicle that the tenant/renter will be using to access the transfer station.

When a vehicle is sold or traded the sticker must be removed from the windshield and a new sticker must be acquired for the new vehicle.

The registration forms are available online, and paper forms like the one below are available at the transfer station and at the Waterford & Stoneham town offices.
