Waterford Historical Society

Email: waterfordmehistoricalsociety@gmail.com

The Society was founded in 1965 for the purpose of preserving and making available all historical and other material deemed valuable and worthy of preservation — primarily about Waterford and Maine. It exists to perpetuate events, customs and traditions of local history for this and future generations. A newsletter called "The Waterford Echoes" is published twice a year and there are three books which can be purchased: two histories and "This Is Waterford," a literary compilation.

Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month from June until November, usually at 7 p.m., at various locations around town. The annual meeting in June is held at the Old Town House, which contains photographs and other archives. The Society also owns the Mary Gage Rice Museum next to the library, a repository of household material culture.

Since it is a volunteer organization, the buildings are not opened on a regular basis but inquiries may be made to the Waterford Historical Society at PO Box 201, Waterford ME 04088 and someone will be available. There are open houses during the summer and computer access to some of our archives is available at the Waterford Library. You will also find us in the Maine Memory Network.
